This very popular course gives 11- to 15 year-olds the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants and school-age children. Combining video, activities, hands-on skills training and discussion for the most complete learning experience, this course teaches participants to :
Respond to emergencies and illnesses with first aid, rescue breathing and other appropriate care
Make decisions under pressure
Assess families' lifestyles and communicate with parents
All classes will be held at the American Red Cross, Pioneer Valley Chapter, 506 Cottage Street, Springfield MA 01104, unless otherwise noted. Advance registration is required for all classes.
First Aid for Children Today (FACT)
The FACT Critter Clan leads kids ages 5 to 8 through health promotion and injury prevention activities. Its environmental theme teaches safety in a non-threatening way. Topics include hygiene and health habits, first aid, personal safety and injury prevention.

Basic Aid Training (BAT)
Children ages 8 to 12 learn emergency response skills, rescue breathing, and ways to prevent and care for choking, wounds, nosebleeds, falls and animal bites. Includes responses for fire safety, poisoning, water accidents, substance abuse and more. Optional activities let you expand the 6-hour course to 12 hours.
Great for earning the Webelos
Readyman or Junior Girl Scout First Aid Badges. No instructor
required, program can be led by adults or older youth certified in CPR and
First Aid. The leader book is $6.50; participant book is $1.50 each.
